Each year, Stadsarchief Amsterdam assigns a stadstekenaar (‘city illustrator’). This artist depicts his observations of people living in Amsterdam and events in the city in his own unique way. In 2023, Christiaan Bastiaans was chosen for this role. He wants to go on an expedition in his own city, to give identity as a chronicler to people and places that we may seem to know, but which still harbor so much unknown.
